Inward Seasons, Outward Seasons, and What Gets Built in the Hard Ones

I’ve been in more inward seasons than most people know about. The one that started everything was when I lost my sister. I didn’t have language for it at the time. I just knew that something had shifted at a level deeper than words, and the only honest thing I could do was go inward and let something new be born from it.

That experience became the foundation of how I understand leadership, identity, and what it actually takes to build something that lasts. I moved into wellness because I’d watched what happens when high performers stay in permanent output mode. I’d felt it in myself first. And then I started to see it everywhere.

What I’ve learned across decades of this work, and across the seasons of my own life, is that we cycle. We go inward. We go outward. And inside each inward season, if we let it do what it’s there to do, a new part of us is born. That part transfers into everything we build next.

This episode is the most personal I’ve been in a while. I’m sharing the arc of it: the sister I lost, the wellness path that followed, the house move, the family loss last fall, the surgery I didn’t see coming, and the book that came out of the stillness on the other side. I’m sharing it because I think a lot of people are carrying something heavy right now and building alongside it, and I want you to know that what you’re building in the hard season is you. That’s the whole thing.

The Vision Map is available here. If you’re in a season of transition and you want clarity on who you’re becoming, not just where you’re going, it’s a good place to start.
