Your Business Is Growing. So Why Does It Feel Like This?
I was at dinner recently with a group of founders I deeply respect, people who’ve built real things, who’ve moved through real seasons, and what struck me wasn’t what they’d accomplished. It was what had been unfolding behind the scenes while they were building it. Things the outside world had no idea about. Things they handled in real time, kept moving through, and came out the other side of.
We hear success stories and then later learn what was actually happening while that success was being built. It’s a pattern I’ve watched play out across decades of work with founders and leaders across every kind of industry. The polished version comes later. The actual becoming happens in the middle.
This minisode is for the founder who’s in the middle of it right now. The one who’s comparing their chapter four to someone else’s chapter twelve and making themselves wrong for where they are. The one who’s been holding off on the joy until they hit the finish line, as if they’ll give themselves permission to feel good once they’ve finally arrived.
Here’s the thing. The way you move through the becoming shapes how you feel on the other side of it. That’s true in the body. It’s true in the business. It’s true in the identity you’re stepping into while you build.
When you bring this lens into your work, what shifts is your relationship to your own timeline. You stop losing energy to comparison and start putting it toward authoring the story you’re actually in. That’s the foundation of what I call leading from the inside out, and it applies every single season, including this one.
Build the joy in now. Your story is still being written.
