When Rest Becomes the Work: What a Forced Pause Taught Me About What I Was Carrying

Stress doesn’t always announce itself. It often settles in alongside all the good things, and because you have the tools and the practices and the self-awareness, you manage it. You manage it so well, in fact, that you stop noticing it’s there.

I came through a significant health event recently. An unexpected surgery that took me completely off the field. And in that forced stillness, with every defense down and every distraction removed, I discovered that I’d been carrying more than I realized.

Not just stress in the conventional sense. But the particular weight of situations, relationships, and ways of operating that I had not fully examined. Things I thought I understood that turned out to be something else entirely.

This minisode is my reflection from that season. The invitation here is not to wait for your body to make the decision for you. It’s to ask yourself, right now, what might be waiting beneath the surface of your very capable, very managed, very full life.

The most valuable thing rest ever gave me alongside recovery is revelation.
